Women's cricket

Your side is waiting for you.

The Ham-Wicks women's side plays T20 cricket in the NDCA women's competition. Seasoned cricketer, completely new or just keen to find out more: expressions of interest are open for 2026/27.

How it works

Twenty overs, one evening a week.

Women's cricket at Hamwicks is built around the NDCA women's T20 competition: short-format games on weeknights through the summer, with training alongside the rest of the club at Passmore Oval.

  • Games are T20. Twenty overs a side, done in an evening. No all-day Saturdays unless you want them.
  • New to cricket is fine. The club has taken complete beginners through to grand finals. Coaches run skills at training, and the side looks after its own.
  • Gear is sorted. Club kit comes from 2REDS, and there is always a bat and pads in the kit bag while you work out what you like.
  • One club, not a side project. The women's side trains, celebrates and fundraises with the rest of the Pumas. Old Boys Day, Ladies Day and presentation night included.

Season rhythm

What a women's season looks like.

Dates shift a little each year with the NDCA draw. The shape of the season does not.

Pre-season, from August

Sunday morning sessions at Passmore Oval from mid-August, then Tuesday and Thursday evenings as the season nears. Come to one and see if it is for you.

T20 rounds, spring to autumn

Weeknight T20 fixtures against the other NDCA clubs from September through to March. Grounds rotate across Newcastle, with home games at Passmore.

Finals and presentation night

Semi-finals and a grand final in the summer, then presentation night with the whole club. The 2022/23 side brought home the WT20 Plate.

Where it can lead

Plate winners and rep players.

The women's side was formed only a few seasons ago and has already put silverware in the cabinet and players into Newcastle representative squads.

2022/23 NDCA WT20 Plate

Grand final winners over Toronto at No. 1 Sportsground. A 159-run opening stand set up 3 for 177, then the bowlers held Toronto to 6 for 129.

Newcastle U16 representatives

Pumas have been selected in Newcastle's U16 women's squad for the Country Championships, including a 104-run tournament from one of our juniors.

Women's coaching team for 2026/27: Lincoln Pearson and Edward Nott.

Questions

Before you message us.

I have never played cricket. Is that really okay?

Yes. The women's side has always mixed experienced players with people picking up a bat for the first time. T20 is the easiest format to learn in, training covers the basics, and nobody is expected to know the rules on day one.

When are games played?

Women's T20 fixtures are played on weeknight evenings through the NDCA season, which runs from around September to March. The exact night and times come from the NDCA draw each season, and the club posts them on its socials and PlayHQ.

When and where is training?

At Passmore Oval in Wickham, alongside the senior sides. Pre-season starts with Sunday mornings in August and moves to Tuesday and Thursday evenings as the season approaches. Confirm the current week on the club's Facebook or Instagram.

What do I need to bring?

Runners and comfortable clothes to start. The club kit bag covers bats, pads and gloves while you settle in. Playing shirts and training gear are available through the club store once you have signed on.

How much does it cost?

Season fees are set by the committee each year and cover your NDCA registration and insurance. Send us a message and we will give you the current figure before you commit to anything.

How do I register?

Register your interest with the form below or a message on our socials. One of the women's coaches will get back to you, invite you to a training session, and walk you through PlayHQ registration when you are ready.
