Say hello
Send the form below or message the club on Instagram or Facebook. Tell us what you have played, or that you have not, and when you are free.
Come to training
Tuesday or Thursday evening at Passmore Oval. Have a bat and a bowl, meet the captains and coaches, and see if the place feels right. It usually does.
Register on PlayHQ
When you are ready, the club sends you the PlayHQ link for the NDCA season. Registration covers your fees, insurance and eligibility to play. Then it is Saturday.
What to bring
Runners, a hat and a bit of front.
You do not need a full kit to start. The club bag has bats, pads and gloves for training, and the shop sorts the rest once you have signed on.
- For training: runners or spikes, shorts, a hat, water and sunscreen. Training is on turf, so spikes and joggers both work.
- For games: whites for two-day cricket and the blue one-day kit for limited overs. Both come through the club store, supplied by 2REDS.
- Your own gear: most players buy a bat, pads and gloves in their first season. The captains are happy to advise so you do not overspend.

Fees and what they cover
Straight answers on cost.
Season fees are set by the committee each year and cover your NDCA registration, Cricket NSW insurance and the club's share of ground and ball costs.
Fees differ for seniors, students, women's T20 and juniors, and the club has always worked with players for whom a lump sum is a stretch. Ask and we will tell you the current figures and the payment options before you commit to anything.
- NDCA registration and player insurance included
- Separate rates for seniors, students, women's and juniors
- Talk to the treasurer about payment plans
New player questions
What people ask before their first session.
Do I have to trial?
No. Come to training, have a hit and a bowl, and the coaches will get a feel for where you fit. Grades are picked on form through the season, so your first session is a start, not an exam.
I am new to Newcastle and do not know anyone.
That describes half the club in their first season. Hamwicks is a social club first. You will have a team, a WhatsApp group and somewhere to be on Saturday night within a fortnight.
When does the season run?
Pre-season training starts in mid-August with Sunday mornings at Passmore. Grade cricket starts in October and runs through to finals in March. Women's T20 runs from September to March on weeknights.
Can I play if I work Saturdays?
Yes. The women's T20, Summer Bash and U21 fixtures are midweek, and the lower grades are used to working around rosters. Tell your captain your availability.
Is there somewhere to park and get changed?
Passmore Oval is on Albert Street in Wickham with street parking around the ground and a short walk from Newcastle Interchange. Details are on the Passmore Oval page.
What is the 100 Club?
The club's season-long fundraising draw. Members buy a number and the draw happens after home games and at club events through the summer. It pays for balls, pitch covers and the BBQ.
