Senior cricket

Saturdays in the blue and gold.

Hamwicks fields four grade sides and a Development League team in the Newcastle District Cricket Association, with first grade at home at Passmore Oval. There is a spot in the order for the serious and the social.

The sides

Five senior sides, one club.

Selection is on form and availability, and players move between grades through the season. Every side has its own captain and a presenting partner behind it.

Questions

Thinking about a game?

I have not played for years. Which grade would I play?

Come to training and have a hit. The coaches and captains pick sides on form and availability, and plenty of players start in fourth grade or the Devs and move up through the season. Nobody is slotted into a grade from a conversation.

What formats do the grades play?

NDCA grade cricket is a mix of two-day and one-day fixtures on Saturdays. Alongside that the club plays midweek T20 cricket in the summer, including the Summer Bash and an U21 T20 competition.

Where are home games?

First grade plays at Passmore Oval in Wickham. The other grades are allocated grounds around Newcastle by the NDCA, with Hawkins Oval and Islington Park among the regulars. Every week's grounds are posted with the team lists.

I can only play some weekends. Is that a problem?

No. Let your captain know your availability and the club will work around it. Lower grades and the T20 sides are built for people balancing cricket with work, study and family.

What does it cost to play?

Season fees are set by the committee each year and include NDCA registration and insurance. Message the club and we will send you the current figure.

How do I follow results?

Every fixture, ladder and scorecard is on PlayHQ under the NDCA competition. The club also posts team lists, results and milestones on Facebook and Instagram each week.
