Ham-Wicks Colts

Where the next Pumas start.

Looking for a junior cricket club? Look no further than Ham-Wicks Colts. Catering for boys and girls of all ages in the local junior competitions, with a guarantee of an enjoyable experience and the game played in the right spirit.

Why Colts

Built on the same ethos as the senior club.

The Colts welcome children of all ages and abilities and guarantee an enjoyable experience, always playing the game in the right spirit.

Kids learn the game from people who love it, with senior players around the club on training nights and plenty of parents on the boundary on game day. Winning is nice. Wanting to come back next week is the point.

  • Local junior competitions. Games against other Newcastle junior clubs, fixtures published on PlayHQ.
  • Girls play too. Colts is open to boys and girls, and Hamwicks has a women's side waiting at the other end of the pathway.
  • A club, not a drop-off. Parents, grandparents and siblings are part of the furniture at Passmore.

The pathway

From Colts to the first grade cap.

Hamwicks is one of the few Newcastle clubs where a junior can play every stage of their cricket in the same colours.

Ham-Wicks Colts

Junior cricket by age group in the local competitions. Learn the game, make mates, play in the right spirit.

SG Moore Cup and U21 T20

The club fields an U16 side in the SG Moore Cup and an U21 T20 team, each with its own coach, so teenagers keep playing with their mates.

Development League and grades

The Devs side gives young players senior overs with support around them, and from there it is fourth grade up to first.

For parents

The questions we get at the fence.

What ages can play?

Colts caters for boys and girls of all ages in the local junior competitions. Tell us your child's age and we will point you to the right age group and the right contact.

My child has never played. Will they keep up?

Yes. Junior age groups are built for learning the game, and the Colts guarantee an enjoyable experience for every child regardless of ability. Coaches focus on the basics and on having fun.

What equipment do they need?

To begin, runners, a hat and a water bottle. The club has shared kit for the younger age groups. As kids grow into the game most families buy their own bat and pads, and the club can advise on sizes.

When are games and training?

Junior fixtures follow the local junior competition draw, published on PlayHQ. Training days and times are set per age group at the start of the season and shared with parents directly.

How does the club keep kids safe?

Hamwicks follows Cricket Australia's Looking After Our Kids code and the Cricket NSW safeguarding policy. Coaches and volunteers in child-related roles hold a Working With Children Check, and the club secretary is the named contact for any concern.
